• Mother's Day in the United States started shortly after the Civil War-as a continuation of the work of Peacemaker Anna Jarvis, who worked throughout the war to foster relationships with mothers on both sides of the war. Her daughter Ann was the one to make the holiday official in 1908. 
• President Woodrow Wilson signed it into law as a holiday in 1914.
