Father's Day is a holiday celebrated annually on the third Sunday of June. It is a day to honor fathers and celebrate fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. The modern Father's Day holiday was created in the early 20th century by Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to honor her own father, William Smart. After hearing a sermon about Mother's Day in 1909, Dodd decided to create a similar holiday for fathers. She successfully lobbied for the holiday to be recognized in her home state of Washington in 1910, and it was officially recognized as a national holiday in 1972. Father's Day is now celebrated in many countries around the world, though the date and manner of celebration vary. We think that dads, and father figures are so vital and important in the lives of children and families- what a great time to celebrate the men in our lives that take on that task with vigor and purpose.
